Popular movies have given new lore to Chinatown districts found in most big cities. These international neighborhoods are portrayed as being dark, mystical, and perhaps even evil places where ninjas hide in wait for potential enemies, geishas entertain clients behind silk screens, and elderly Chinese medicine men dispense herbal teas and advice. However, actual Chinatown districts are very different than their fictional counterparts. These areas are havens for tourists wanting to experience unique foods and buy beautiful handmade products. Even more, these districts are vital to the cities in which they are located.

People who visit a local Chinatown do not have to fear being assaulted by flying ninjas.Want more? Click here{{/tag} The people who live and work in these neighborhoods are no different than anyone else in the city. They want to help customers who come to their shops and otherwise live their lives in peace. Chinatown residents disdain of violence much as anyone else would.

These neighborhoods do offer unique flavor and flair, however. People who want to sample authentic Asian cooking are encouraged to check out the local cafes and restaurants. They may find that the food and dining experiences differ greatly from the Asian food offered at chain eateries.

Visiting Chinatown in Seattle allows you to immerse yourself in a different culture without having to leave the city. Chinatown offers a wide variety of restaurants, shops and other attractions to hold your interest. You can also find many historical sites that will help you better understand the history of this unique neighborhood in Seattle.

The first historic attraction you will see to take you back to a different time is the traditional Chinese gate located on 5th, Jackson and Dearborn streets. It’s ancient architecture signifies that a Chinese community of people live and work within.

Another popular historic attraction in Chinatown is Kobe Terrace where visitors can see all of the park’s cherry trees bloom each spring. You can also learn more about Asian culture and its impact on the area at the Wing Luke Asian Museum.

Along with sites and landmarks, Chinatown also offers a range of traditional events. You can come to Chinatown to see traditional Chinese dances, festivals and multicultural celebrations that come from traditions across the Asian continent. No matter what you are looking for when you visit Chinatown, you will easily have a better understanding of the culture and traditions present.

In case you haven’t figured it out, the international district of Seattle is a place that everyone reading this site should visit at least once. However, some of you have emailed me talking about how nice it sounds, but you just can’t make the trip. I would argue that the international district is worth the trip alone, but if you still can’t make it, here are a few (weaker) alternatives to seeing the district yourself.

1.) Watch a television program about it. There are plenty around. Doesn’t matter where you look – cable vs satellite, the district is noteworthy enough that lots of people will be talking about it.

2.) Read up on all the different Asian cultures that make up the Seattle international district.

3.) Take a trip to the International District vicariously courtesy of the wonderful world of the internet.

You know, that’s all we can think of. There really are no good reasons not to see this district – this collaboration of cultures.

Nowhere else in America can you see Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Vietnamese and Southeast Asians really living side-by-side in a cohesive and nurturing community. If you want to see what kinds of progress can be made when cultures collide and cooperate, this is the place to be.

Seattle has a very rich and diverse Asian Culture in the area of Chinatown, but throughout. You’ll get a very nice mix of Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese, Laotian and other different mainland and Pacific Islander culture.

Some great places to visit so you can soak up the culture include: Kubota Garden (showcasing an excellent garden park vibe from a Japanese perspective), Panama Hotel and Tea House (featuring traditional Japanese bath house stylings), and Bruce Lee’s grave site (an excellent place to pay respect to Jeet Kune Do founder and the first major Asian-American action star).Check out this link here.

Chinese New Year aka Lunar New Year is always a big spectacle. Everything gets really decorative and great colors of red and yellow. You’ll see Chinatown become something really special. You can really get into the festive culture with streams of bright red paper decorated in beautiful calligraphy. There are different lion and dragon performers with people playing the drums to show the more traditional side of Asian culture. During the summertime, there is an event called Dragon Fest which showcases dances, performances, crafts for kids and much more. It’s an excellent way to get out there, enjoy your family and immerse in different Asian cultures.

There are a number of different cultures represented in the city of Seattle.
Seattle has made each culture feel at home and given them the space and ability to create an environment that reflects their culture and way of life.

Each year the Chinese celebrate their own New Years in late January and the celebration continues into the beginning of February. This is the year of the Dragon.
The open air night market in the heart of Chinatown is a mirror reflection of the way Chinese live daily in China. There are all kinds of stalls providing different authentic Chinese dishes, shopping, games, movies, entertainment, and gifts.
This summer there will be celebration of the year of the Dragon during the annual summer festival that has been held in Seattle’s China town since 1978. It is the largest Pan-Asian street festival in the Pacific North West.
Chinese always end their celebration with a fabulous display of fireworks and at this years festival you can rest assured they wont disappoint. The festival will be held in July on the ninth and tenth. There will be more than 100 booths, karaoke singing contest, cultural dancing, kid’s and family activities, a musical performance and much more. Don’t miss it.

Are you looking for something fun to do this summer? Well, one of the things that you can do is celebrate at the annual Seattle Chinatown Dragon Festival. This is such an amazing thing to do because when you show your support, you are helping to keep Chinatown alive and fully authentic.

It is the next best thing to actually traveling to China for a festival. When you celebrate in Chinatown you are helping to keep the spirit of Chinatown alive. The less people that show up, the less likely one of these festivals are to continue.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. However, by showing up you will be giving your full support to these cultural festivals.

Because they are something that you will have never experienced, you are going to remember them fondly for a lifetime. If you want to set memories for your life, then you would be wise in celebrating at the annual Seattle Chinatown Dragon Festival. It there that you will be able to experience things that you have never experienced.

It is also a great way to begin the summer because you will have at least one outstanding memory that you are not going to forget very soon. Going to the Seattle Chinatown Dragon Festival simply makes sense!
